Facebook Launches Dedicated Video Tab

With the rapidly evolving Facebook Live ecosystem we wanted to update you on recent changes that we believe will have an impact on how your content is published and discovered on the platform. Below is a quick guide on the most recent change, the launch of the video tab on your mobile application. The video hub’s aim is to make trending video more easily discoverable – think of it like a video news feed.

The tab is dedicated to videos, creating a destination for users to discover videos. “We really believe that the future is going to be more immersive, and video is a big part of that,” said Fidji Simo, Director of Product at Facebook.

When a user selects video, it opens a video hub, housing a feed of social videos categorized by topic, based on that user’s likes, interests, and friend list, as well as recommended video. This hub eliminates the issue of videos getting lost in one’s news feed, making content easily accessible and highly visible to Facebook fans.

The aim of Facebook’s video tab is to help you “discover live video that the world is talking about, live video from the friends and creators that matter most to you, and live video on topics you’re interested in. From that place, you can also search live and non-live videos, and choose to go live yourself. Simply tap on the new video icon in the app to navigate to this new space.”

As you increase audience engagement throughout your live stream, your visibility and rank in the video hub rises. The functionality of Live Studio – our live streaming platform –  directly addresses the issue of getting higher up in the social graph.

This video tab also makes Facebook live video even more appealing to brands, content creators and broadcasters because it makes their content more discoverable and gives them the opportunity to expand their fan base. Facebook – like others – is trying to attract some of that $175bn global TV spend and this is a step towards that. Video posts and ads that run solely in a newsfeed can get lost in the abyss and speed of other content cycling through – this hub has created a destination that enables marketers to target their consumers through video consumption, making it a more attractive platform for advertisers.

As Facebook Live continues to expand and transform the way the world consumes video content, Facebook clearly has their sights set on being a dominant player in the digital video space.
