The Skatepark Project Launches TikTok Campaign in honor of Go Skateboarding Day on June 21
Organization partnering with Telescope on live streaming service integration
Vista, CA (June 21, 2021) – Go Skateboarding Day started in 2004 to make skateboarding more accessible across the world and encourage people to get outside and skate. This year, in celebration of “Go Skateboarding Day” on June 21, The Skatepark Project, a nonprofit organization founded by Tony Hawk that helps underserved communities create safe and inclusive public skateparks for youth, has partnered with TikTok on a social media campaign to help raise awareness and funding.
Leading up to Go Skateboarding Day, The Skatepark Project enlisted the help of Tony Hawk, and some of TikTok’s endemic skate creators, to produce a series of educational videos, using #goskateboarding. The content features pro skaters providing insider knowledge on how to land a few beginner-to-advanced tricks – encouraging people to get outside, go skateboarding, and attempt a trick. The nonprofit organization will utilize Telescope ’s TikTok integrations and live streaming services for a seamless viewing experience.
“Go Skateboarding Day is an important day for all of us and by partnering with TikTok we are able to amplify a great cause and provide our audience with a memorable and educational experience,” said The Skatepark Project’s Executive Director, Benjamin Anderson Bashein. “We knew that social media would be the best place to engage both with our local communities and our skating community.”
The Skatepark Project’s Alec Beck will host the event from Hawk Headquarters, while connecting remotely with skaters in and skateparks from across the country. This 1-hour TikTok livestream will begin at 4pmPT. Locations and skaters include:
-

Roc City Skatepark

Funded through the "Built to Play Skatepark Grant" initiative in partnership with the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. -

“At the end of the day, our mission is to create skateparks for underserved communities,” added Bashein. “Having Tony involved and seeing the skate community come together for a cause that will inspire the next generation of skaters is why we do what we do.”
