Audience "superfan" voting with real-time demographic data collection and display
America’s Got Talent turned to Telescope to create a real-time voting experience for a pre-taped broadcast of AGT Champions. For 6 days, 200 “super fans” from all 50 states gathered at the Pasadena Convention Center to watch recordings of finalist acts and vote for their favorites.
Customized touchpads provided by Telescope gathered both participant votes and significant voter data points. Select data was displayed during the broadcast to show which acts did best amongst different demographics, lending a more live-action experience for viewers at home.
Audience members voted during six pre-taped episodes by using touchpads to vote for their favorite acts as well as enter participant demographic data.
For the finale, SMS voting was used instead of touchpads because the large number of acts could not be supported on the touchpads. For this method, voters texted a keyword into a short code to choose their favorite acts.
Touchpad voting for six pre-taped episodes: Audience submitted votes for favorite acts as well as demographic data
SMS voting: In-show audience voted on favorite acts by texting a keyword to a short code
Data collected and displayed: Overall standings, State standings, Male vs Female, Region and Age range
Votes Recorded instantly: Data points were gathered in 10 minutes and verified results were revealed in show.
