CBS teamed up with Telescope to power the CBS Mornings Mixtape Music Competition, a UGC contest that encouraged viewers to create a cover of Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now.” After submissions were collected, a fan vote was held online where the public could vote on their favorite song submission to determine the winner.
The winner of the contest was offered to travel to NYC to record their version of the song and have it featured in a new segment of the CBS Morning Show in fall 2024.
There were two phases to the contest: Phase 1 was the online contest submission entry period, and Phase 2 was a Fan Vote, where the public could vote on their favorite contest semi-finalists (online voting method)
During Phase 1, visitors to the custom microsite entered the contest by uploading their submission video and filling out an entry form. Then there was a brief interstitial period to determine the semi-finalists.
Users uploaded a 30-60 second original cover of the song “I Can See Clearly Now” and 1 entry per person/duo/band was enforced.
After the submission period ended, an interstitial was shown online while the entries were reviewed and the semi-finalists were selected by CBS (based on judging criteria)”
During the Phase 2 Fan Vote period, users navigated to the Vote section of the microsite, where they could view all 14 semi-finalists. On the online voting page, users could watch the semi-finalists' videos and vote for their favorites. There was a daily 3-vote limit for online voting (based on a user's email address).
From the microsite, users could click the Vote Now button to be taken to the voting page.
On the vote's landing page, users could see all 14 semi-finalists who were up for vote. They could click the View and Vote button to open a Confirmation Modal. From here, users could view the semi-finalist’s cover song video and then can assign and confirm their votes.
Once the user assigned and confirmed their votes, they would be served a Thank You modal with the option to share the campaign on X (fka Twitter) and Facebook.
Once the voting period was over, CBS revealed the Top 3 (who were to be featured in show) and announced the Grand Prize Winner and the two runner ups.
Microsite: Telescope built a custom microsite to host our Uploader product (during Phase 1), an Online Vote (during Phase 2), Official Contest Rules, FAQs document, and the Video Submission Guidelines.
Uploader: From the microsite, fans viewed our Uploader product, where they could enter the contest by uploading their video submissions and filling out an entry form.
Online Vote: Telescope's Standard Online Vote template powered by Campaign Manager was used for the online voting. The product was iframed into the microsite that we built for campaign (products featured on the microsite were adjusted between the two phases of the campaign).
Moderation & Fulfillment: In addition to the above, Telescope provided moderation and judging support for all the submissions and provided legal guidance and fulfillment for the contest.
