Green Day Live Streams Special Performance To Raise Funds for Americares Hurricane Harvey Relief

In case you missed it, Green Day held a special Facebook Live performance earlier today raising funds for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. The live stream was watched by over 3 million fans and raised $46,000 with the band donating an additional $100,000 to help the victims.

The Facebook live concert generated a lot of buzz online with  Billboard NME  and  Vice  covering the story.

“Americares is truly grateful to have Green Day’s support,” said Americares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis in a statement. “Their generosity and dedication means so much to us, as we restore health and hope for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.”

“We kept seeing these terrible images of devastation coming from Texas, and we knew we had to do something to help,” said Green Day lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong. “We’re encouraging fans to join us in support of Americares, a trusted organization that’s on the ground providing aid.”
