Interactive hub with second-screen play-along experience and on-air integration
Hosted by Tony Reali, ESPN’s “Around the Horn” invites panelists to debate popular sports topics. For its 16th anniversary of “Around the Horn”, ESPN revamped the show with a new look and virtual updates. They turned to Telescope to create a second-screen interactive hub that gave viewers at home the opportunity to get to know the panelists, play along with the show, and score the panelists in real-time – along with the show’s host, Tony Reali.
Live Scoring: During each episode, viewers were directed to the website where they could score each panelist by giving or deducting points, live and in real-time. Each panelist’s average score was then displayed on-air, allowing fans at home to see how the audience’s opinions lined up with the host’s.
Passion Meter Interactive polling: ESPN’s digital team created weekly polls for viewers to vote on, which changed based on the popular topics being discussed during the show on any given day. The Passion Meter scale updated in real-time in favor of the player/team/topic the audience was most passionate about.
Leaderboard: The leaderboard displayed panelist bios and a variety of stats throughout the season, so that viewers could see how each panelist compared against the others.
Video page: Users could view a featured clip from the show, as well as three video carousels, giving fans a look at show highlights, behind the scenes footage, and archived videos.
