NBC's The Voice Instant Save Vote

OVERVIEW

The Voice is one of the leading talent competitions with a big focus on audience participation. Partnering with Telescope since its launch in 2011, it has become the premiere social TV show. 

The Instant Save was a new innovation that allowed fans to vote via Twitter or most recently via Online and across the Native App in real time to save a contestant from elimination. This award-winning campaign drove huge social engagement and impressions among users.

HOW IT WORKED

During the live show viewers were prompted to vote via hashtag on Twitter to save one of the bottom contestants from elimination. In a short 5 minute voting window, Telescope collected and counted votes, and delivered verified results which were immediately announced on-air.

For season 17 of The Voice we built an entirely new site for the Instant Save including a custom countdown feature notifying fans that they had five minutes to make their save decisions. Viewers were able to vote by using NBC.com or The Voice Official App to save an artist from elimination.  The Instant Save Window was announced on-air during the results episodes and lasted for five minutes (from the time that the start of Instant Save voting is announced).  You could save more than 1 artist (up to 4 artists eligible for vote).

KEY FEATURES

Hashtag Vote:

  • Voters cast their vote by tweeting the hashtag #VoiceSave and contestant name

  • Five minute window for viewers to cast their vote

  • Real-time results delivered immediately after the Save closed

  • Custom Dashboard visualized results for NBC producers

  • Integration with NBC's graphics provider showed dynamic results as viewers voted

RESULTS

  • The #VoiceSave vote garnered huge viewer engagement and participation with over 13 million tweets and 60 million impressions.

  • One year, the Save was decided by two votes.
