In celebration of the WNBA's 25th season, the league teamed up with Telescope to kick off their first-ever 'Vote for the GOAT' campaign that engaged fans to crown the WNBA's 'Greatest of All Time' player.
The WNBA marked its 25th season since the league's first game in 1997, and in commemoration, the WNBA wanted to honor and recognize the top players of all time, while engaging fans to partake in this special milestone. To do so, the WNBA teamed up with Telescope to launch "Vote for the GOAT", which enabled fans to vote for their favorite player from a pre-selected group of the greatest and most influential players in the history of the WNBA.
Fans had the ability to cast their votes through either online via the WNBA's site or socially via Twitter. To maximize voting opportunities, users could come back and vote daily on both or either method.
Online: Navigating to WNBA's vote site, users were asked to sign in via email to cast their vote. Once logged in, users could scroll through the 25 pre-nominated players and cast their vote for who they believed to be the 'GOAT'. Fans had a limit of 1 vote per day.
Twitter: Fans on Twitter could vote by tweeting the name of player (or their handle) along with the hashtag #WNBAGoatVote. Same as the online vote, fans were able to send in 1 vote per day per Twitter account.
Fans then were encouraged to tune-in to the the WNBA Finals, where the player with the most fan votes was revealed and officially declared the WNBA GOAT.
Standard Online Vote : A vote online that has an easy-to-use UI for a seamless voting experience. Fans had the ability to be the driving factor of which WNBA player was named the 'GOAT'. Engaging UI and player images allowed for fans to peruse all viable players before picking their all time favorite. Share buttons within the experience encouraged fans to voice their vote and encourage others to visit the site. In addition, pre-populated tweet share buttons were embedded into the 'Thank You' message to make voting again via Twitter as easy as clicking a button, doubling a fan's effort and impact.
Social Vote : Fans can easily vote through their Twitter account. All posts incorporating the promoted hashtag and player's name or handle were pulled into Telescope's CONNECT platform. Fan engagement helped push the branded hashtag to trend, reaching and encouraging even wider social participation.
